• Basic Member - translation into English

Due to my combination of interests, skills and experience, my translation work in practice tends to meet the needs of clients who want subtitles on videos or localisation of apps and software into Welsh.

Subtitling - I have extensive experience subtitling all kinds of videos. With factors such as speaking and reading speeds, line breaks, misspeaking and errors to consider, subtitling is different to text translation. Ensuring a pleasant viewing experience for subtitle users in accordance with best subtitling practice means the text on screen is not always a verbatim translation of what is actually said. I can create subtitle files in various formats, or if there are specific style requirements I can return a video with the subtitles burned into the footage.

Transcription - If a text document record of an audio or video recording is needed, I can provide a transcript capturing to whatever level of detail is required and in any format of the client's choice.

Localisation - I have localised a number of apps into Welsh and used my coding skills to create JavaScript that builds grammatically correct sentences from text strings or audio clips, such as text and voice instructions in Welsh. I strive to use the software I localise in order to ensure that terms are appropriate not only in terms of meaning, but also in their placement, length, style and consistency.

Simultaneous interpreting - As I work towards qualification, I take on simultaneous interpreting work, and am most comfortable in the fields of education, local government, politics, and the third sector.
