The examination centres are in Aberystwyth, Cardiff and Glynllifon near Caernarfon.
Text Membership Examinations for Full and Basic membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru are usually held twice a year, in April and in October.
On the day of the examinations, two examinations, each of 2 hours and 5 minutes duration, are held as follows:
PAPER 1: translation into Welsh, held in the morning (10:30am)
PAPER 2: translation into English, held in the afternoon (1:45pm)
The Full Membership examination requires candidates to translate two texts of approximately 300 words each, as well as a 300 word text during the week in which the examinations are held.
The Basic Membership examination requires candidates to translate two texts of approximately 250 words each.
Candidates may choose to sit one examination into one language only or to sit both papers.
Text Membership Examinations 14 October 2023
Although these examinations have been held, the October 2023 examinations handbook will continue to be relevant to candidates who sat those examinations as it contains information about what happens next: marking the examination scripts, announcing the results, getting an individual report on an examination script, and making an appeal.
The handbook will also be useful to those who wish to sit the Association’s examinations in the future as it provides an overview of the examination system and its requirements.
The next round of examinations will be held on 20 April 2024. Registration opens 1 February 2024.
Note, the examinations handbook is only available in Welsh.
Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru is part funded by the Welsh Government.
