THE PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR ENGLISH <> WELSH TRANSLATORS AND INTERPRETERS

Text Membership Examinations

Text Membership Examinations for Full and Basic membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru are usually held twice a year, in April and in October.

The examination centres are at Aberystwyth University, Cardiff University and Coleg Glynllifon near Caernarfon.

On the day of the examinations, two examinations, each of 2 hours and 5 minutes duration, are held as follows:

PAPER 1: translation into Welsh, held in the morning (10.30am)
PAPER 2: translation into English, held in the afternoon (1.45pm)

The Full Membership examination requires candidates to translate two texts of approximately 300 words each, as well as a 300 word text during the week in which the examinations are held.

The Basic Membership examination requires candidates to translate two texts of approximately 250 words each.

Candidates may choose to sit one examination into one language only or to sit both papers.

The examination fees:

Members of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, the Recognised Companies, the organisations who are recognised, and the Student Associates pay
£90
for sitting one paper, or £150 for sitting both papers on the same day.

Everyone else will pay
£105
for sitting one paper, or £180 for sitting both papers on the same day.

Text Membership Examinations, 1 October 2022

All the information about these examinations is to be found in ‘Llawlyfr Arholiadau Aelodaeth Testun Hydref 2022’ (which is only available in Welsh). This handbook will provide answers to almost all questions asked by candidates: registration, the day of the examinations itself, marking the work, announcing the results, and what happens thereafter.

It is important that all candidates – whether they have sat an examination in the past or are new to the examinations process – read this handbook carefully before registering.

Each candidate must fill the registration form.

Registration is now closed.

Note: all documentation is available in Welsh only.

Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru is part funded by the Welsh Government.
