About Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru

The aim of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru is to uphold, ensure and promote professional translation/interpretation standards and improving, increasing and developing translators and interpreters' skill base and knowledge.

Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru has three levels of membership for professional translators and interpreters. Full and Basic Membership is through examination (translation) and Interpreting Membership is through its interpreting test.

Membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru is recognized by an increasing number of organizations, companies and those commissioning work as the benchmark of an individual's ability to translate/interpret.

Translators and interpreters are special people!

Excellent and accurate translation or interpretation is a specialized skill. It requires specific skills, experience, the opportunity to develop and the ability to refine that skill in order to generate work of a high standard.

The Student Associate category encourages and supports students who wish to become translators/interpreters. By attaining this category, students can benefit from Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru's workshops and examinations.

An academic qualification is also advantageous. Translation/interpretation courses are available at universities here in Wales. Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol has a post-graduate Professional Translation Studies programme.
